Yesterday's Heroes

Barry Pascoe

The term legend is one that is adopted far too frequently, but this is certainly not the case when one ponders the remarkable record of Great Boulder’s greatest ever player Barry Pascoe, whose career statistics are nothing short of remarkable.

326 A Grade Games
871 Wickets at 12.9
5023 Runs at 15.6
133 Catches
10 Premierships
Club Champion 1977-78, 1980-81
Cranston Medallist 1963-64  1974-75

Barry Pascoe began his cricketing career with the Gee Bees at the age of 10 and finished in his mid 40s, which is testament to his love of the game and the durability he possessed. After initially making his mark as a polished top order batsmen, where he scored 5023 club runs that included four centuries, he unfortunately suffered an injury which affected his batting.
Pascoe then turned his attention to bowling medium pacers where he went on to capture more than 1000 wickets (871 for the GBCC and over 150 for the Goldfields).
Apart from his outstanding career with Great Boulder Barry played in 20 consecutive carnivals for the Goldfields from 1961-81 and represented WA Country X1 teams that played against South Africa in 1962, MCC (1965), India (1967) and the West Indies (1968). To complement his outstanding cricketing ability, he was renowned for his astute captaincy and was widely regarded as a man with an amazing cricketing brain.
This came to the fore when in successive premiership seasons of 1966-67 and 67-68 he was at the helm as the club's captain/coach.
As for the man who is not comfortable with accolades, even he can be as proud as all at the Gee Bees when we salute him as Barry Pascoe a Legend.
